While in Grayplane, they are hidden to enemies and their attacks ignore armor. (Active) With an elusive step, Hero slips into Grayplane. Hero ends their turn and waits for an enemy to come within range, hitting up to one enemy with a melee attack. The occasionally amateurish writing and somewhat shallow game play mechanics set it back slightly, but only just.These abilities are obtained automatically when a hero selects their class. It has a great deal of style and heart, and I love going back to it again and again. Players of all experience levels will be able to engage in combat - and likely succeed! I found myself trying new combinations of skills and equipment, feeling out different play styles and systems. I still find the stories enjoyable, even if I roll my eyes occasionally.Īs far as actual game play, it is extremely easy to learn and enjoyably challenging to master. I think the writers took a lot of chances to give that 'storybook' feeling, and not all of them paid off. The dialog can get repetitive after a game or two, and it can be a bit over the top even from the beginning. While being entirely different from any TTRPG I've played, it did a great job capturing the feel of a traditional tabletop game. My first play through felt vital and engaging, and I found myself quickly investing in my party members. While the game is very accessible and appealing to all ages, it is definitely in its own category.
