![]() The freeze-frame of Squidward says a lot. Squidward experienced the best moment of his life. In the last scene of the episode, you see Squidward content he has achieved his dream. So, if we can all just pretend that Squidward was a fireman or some guy in an ambulance, then I’m sure that we can all pull together and discover what it truly means to be in a marching band.Īs a kid watching this episode for the first time, it was hilarious seeing SpongeBob sing in a lower register, yet it was a godsend seeing the episode end with a happy ending. SpongeBob: And Larry, when your heart gave out from all those tanning pills, who revived you? Evelyn, when your little Jimmy was trapped in a fire, who rescued him? Squidward’s always been there for us when it was convenient for him. SpongeBob: What kind of monsters are we? That poor creature came to us in his hour of need, and we failed him. So, instead, SpongeBob agrees to pretend Squidward is someone who cares about the betterment of others. ![]() ![]() SpongeBob then tells the townspeople to list individuals who helped them, and none of them were Squidward. In another joke, and the best of the episode, SpongeBob feels terrible after the townspeople wreck Squidward's chance of glory, so he tells the townspeople that Squidward has been there to help them when it was convenient for him. In another instance, during the marching band's second day of practice, Squidward’s flag twirlers spin so aggressively that they fly away into the sky and crash into a blimp. In the scene, Squidward’s clarinet playing is so awful the pet hospital from down the street thinks it’s a dying animal. I know it’s wrong, but Patrick’s scream of agony and then trotting back to his seat gets to me.Īnother hilarious joke is the opening scene when Squidward plays the clarinet. Let alone horseradish.Īnother example is when Patrick kicks Sandy, and she puts a trumpet through Patrick’s head. As Squidward ensembles the marching band, Patrick asks,Īnd to Patrick's dismay, mayonnaise isn’t an instrument. My favorite gag of the episode is all the foolish moments with Patrick. Past Squidward’s arc of redemption, the episode is chock-full of quips and gags and, of course, the musical number no SpongeBob fan can’t forget. Squidward is the individual every person becomes when they reach adulthood, and it’s nice to see the little guy (that being Squidward) have a sweet victory. ![]() Instead, Squidward acts like a real person trapped in a cartoon full of eccentric characters. Squilliam’s making money from music, and Squidward works in a fast-food restaurant, hoping someone will pay attention to his clarinet proficiency.Ĭompared to Squidward, Squilliam isn’t as self-absorbed and selfish. Squilliam lives the life Squidward wanted for himself, yet somewhere in Squidward's transition to becoming rich, Squilliam’s the one who took it away. He would appear in later episodes to mock Squidward for not fulfilling his dreams. ‘Band Geeks’ is the first appearance of Squilliam. On September 7, 2001, released for the second season, ‘Band Geeks’ sees Squidward get redemption as he leads a marching band to shove it in his rich rival face, Squilliam Fancyson, from band class. So, instead, I’ll write a single article for what could be the best SpongeBob SquarePants episode: ‘Band Geeks.’ I could go back and edit the article, but no one wants to read the piece I wrote months ago. The list, of course, had the episodes every fan and first-time viewer of SpongeBob would enjoy, yet I forgot to include one episode one I’m a shame I didn’t add. I wrote an article about the best (spongiest) SpongeBob SquarePants episodes a couple of months back.
